We do not know if Josephine kept a diary like some of her brother’s did. We do have her diary of her Grand Tour of Europe in 1900, and several of her poesie books in which she wrote and attached pictures. By the names in the poesie books, we believe she created them when a teen in Oakland, California.
We provide the diaries verbatim, without any intentional corrections. The diary and poesie books came to us from Josephine’s grandchild, Silvia Ucko. Sadly, we never met Silvia. She died two months before the Benitz-2000 reunion at “La California”.
