Peter’s Photo Album
1961 – 1966

Years:

Peter’s camera was a Christmas present from his parents, 1961.  He promptly dropped it down the long flight of wooden stairs at “Miriam” - the house rented by Auntie Nena in Cruz Grande, Córdoba.  Repaired with Poxipol, it survived to take all of these photos.  Brand name “Certo-Phot”, made in Dresden, East Germany: 120 film (12 exposures per roll), view-finder, 2 apertures (f/8 & f/11), 1 set shutter speed, 1 set distance.

Camping trips ‘Down South’: We followed these two routes going & returning:

  1. West from Santa Fé (prov.) to Mendoza, then south on the Ruta 40 (visiting May & Jay Mohr-Bell in San Rafael to stock up on their wine) to Zapala (Neuquen prov.) – then west to Aluminé (Pulmarí, Quillen) or further south to Junin (Huechulaufquen, Quemquemtreu).
  2. South from Santa Fé through Santa Rosa (La Pampa) to the Rio Negro valley & Neuquen city, from where we travelled either:
    1. South through Jacobacci to Leleque & Lago Nº3, bypassing Bariloche;
    2. SW along the Limay river to Chacabuco, Bariloche, & the big lakes district;
    3. West to Zapala – continuing to Aluminé (Pulmarí, Quillen) and/or Junin (Huechulaufquen, Quemquemtreu).
  3. Roads: In the 1960’s dusty gravel roads were standard south of San Rafael (Mendoza) and General Acha (La Pampa).  Paved exeptions were: Malargüe (Mza), Bariloche (RN), and the Rio Negro valley.  Balsas (Ferries): Several river crossings were by ferry (inluding on the Ruta 40), today most if not all have been replaced by bridges.
