Polo 1922-1932
Newspaper Clippings

This album of newspaper clippings and tournament programs was most likely compiled by Nancy Jeffries of her husband Alfred D. Benitz's achievements on the polo field.  The clippings begin in July, 1922, when he was 19 years old with a handicap of 1, and end ten years later with his last tournament in October, 1932, when he had a handicap of 4.

Notes about the clippings:

• The clippings were made if Alfred D. Benitz or John Benitz were mentioned.  Below each clipping we show their handicap [e.g. (1)], the position they played [e.g. #2], and the team they played on [e.g. "The Tyros"].
• Many clippings are missing the name of the newspaper, and/or the date of publication.
• The English language daily newspapers of Buenos Aires at that time were: The Standard, and The Buenos Aires Herald.  There was also a magazine: The Review of the River Plate.  The BA Herald survived the longest, ceasing publication in 2017.
• The Spanish language daily newspapers are all of Buenos Aires (& all still exist).  Most of the articles came from La Nacion, followed by La Prensa, El Mundo, and La Razon.
• Most U.S. articles came from the The Los Angeles Times (California).
• The album’s pages show as a dark green border or background to the clippings.  The closest to the true color is page 6.  Variations are due to our efforts to improve the legibility of the articles.
