Howard Webster - World War I |
|||||
Howard volunteered, joining up as Diego Howard Webster. He completed officer training on 19 October, 1915, and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Cheshire (Earl of Chester's) Yeomanry. He rose to Adjutant & Acting Captain, reverting to simply Lieutenant until 23 April, 1919, when he ceased to command a company (& presumably ceased serving). | |||||

Jo Benitz - World War I |
|||||
Jo volunteered, joining the Women's Legion Motor Drivers, RASC (Royal Army
Service Corps, the women’s service of the British Army during WW-I). All the photos in this section were taken or collected by Jo. However, years later she was about to burn them when a visitor distracted her, affording her grandchild J. Lockwood the opportunity to rescue a great many. These are a sample of the 300+ rescued photos. We have chosen photos in which Jo is present or which show the drivers in their activities. It is probably safe to assume the photos were all taken in or near Tidworth, Wiltshire. “Titles between double-quotes” were written on the photos in blue ink – it is remarkable how, decades later, Jo remembered the names of people, horses, cars, & even license plate numbers! NOTE Oct. 2019: There are at least a dozen more WW-I photos we wish to add. |
